FG Reviews School Curricula Ahead of 2025 Rollout

The Federal Government has completed a review of curricula for basic, senior secondary and technical education to reduce content overload and equip students with practical skills.

The Ministry of Education confirmed the development in a statement issued yesterday, noting that the revised framework was developed with input from agencies including the Nigerian Educational Research, Development Council and the Universal Basic Education Commission.

Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, who presented the new structure in Abuja, said pupils in Primary 1–3 will study 9 to10 subjects, Primary 4–6 will take 10 to 12, junior secondary students 12–14, senior secondary 8–9, while technical schools will offer 9–11, adding that the reform prioritizes deeper learning and more effective use of classroom time.

The ministry further stated that implementation would be phased in and strictly monitored, but rollout is expected from September 2025 following an earlier postponement announced by Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa. Under the new policy.
