Panic has spread across the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State after armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing the vice principal and abducting several students.

The attack, carried out late Sunday night, claimed the life of Vice Principal Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who was reportedly shot while trying to protect students during the assault.

The number of students abducted has not yet been confirmed, as authorities have not released official figures.

A resident, Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, told reporters that the attackers stormed the school without resistance, leaving the community shaken. “It is a heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown the entire region into deep fear and mourning,” she said.

Community members have continued to mourn Makuku, describing him as a dedicated educator who tried to shield his students from harm.

Security agencies have yet to issue a formal statement on the incident. Residents are calling for swift action from state and federal authorities to rescue the abducted students and strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities in the area.
