FG Appeals To Overseas-Trained Pharmacists To Serve Nigeria

The Federal Government has appealed to Nigerian pharmacists trained abroad to resist practising overseas and instead contribute their expertise to strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, represented by Adeola Olufowobi-Yusuf, Speaking at the induction and oath-taking ceremony for foreign-trained pharmacists in Abuja, today, said Nigeria urgently needs skilled professionals to improve access to quality medicines, patient safety and the rational use of drugs.
He also underscored government efforts to boost local pharmaceutical manufacturing, describing it as vital for job creation and national development, while urging inductees to view their oath as a commitment to ethical practice and national service.
Echoing the call, the Director-General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, Dr Obi Adigwe, stated that returning to Nigeria after training abroad was his best career decision, noting that pharmacists could make greater and more lasting impact where their skills were most needed.
