Truck Accident Causes Gridlock On Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

Severe traffic congestion was recorded on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning following an accident involving a truck that overturned and blocked part of the roadway.

The incident occurred in the early hours near the Ogere Bridge, disrupting traffic for motorists travelling towards Ibadan, Saapade, Alapako and nearby communities.

The obstruction forced drivers to divert into the opposite lane, triggering heavy gridlock on the Lagos-bound carriageway and affecting movement towards Mowe, Ibafo and surrounding areas.

By mid-morning, traffic on both sides of the expressway had slowed to a near standstill, leaving many commuters stranded for several hours.

Sources said the truck had fallen late on Friday night, but congestion worsened on Saturday as traffic volume increased.

Officials at the scene attributed the accident to a mechanical fault in the vehicle.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were deployed to manage traffic and restore order.

Efforts were ongoing to clear the wreckage and reopen at least one lane to ease the gridlock and reduce the hardship faced by motorists.
