Ilorin Sarkin Gobir Mourns Death Of Chief Imam

The Sarkin Gobir and Madawaki of the Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, describing it as a major loss to the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and the wider Muslim community.

In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Alhaji Gobir paid tribute to the late Islamic scholar, praising his lifelong devotion to Allah, service to humanity, and commitment to peace and unity.

“The late Chief Imam of Ilorin was a pillar of faith, wisdom and humility. His guidance and prayers contributed immensely to the peace and religious harmony we enjoy in Ilorin today,” he said, adding that the loss would be felt for generations.

Sheikh Saliu was appointed the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983, a position he held for over four decades. During his tenure, he earned widespread respect for his deep knowledge of Islamic teachings, moral discipline and fatherly counsel to leaders and followers alike.

Alhaji Gobir prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the late cleric, grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and consoles the Emir of Ilorin, the Ilorin Emirate Council, his family and the entire Muslim Ummah.

He noted that the legacy of faith, peace and selfless service left behind by the late Chief Imam would continue to inspire future generations.
