The allocation was made at the FAAC meeting held in Abuja in January 2026, according to a statement by the Director of Press at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa.

The total distributable revenue comprised ₦1.084 trillion in statutory revenue, ₦846.507 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT) and ₦38.110 billion from the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).

The amount shared represents an increase from the ₦1.928 trillion distributed in November 2025. From the ₦1.969 trillion shared, the Federal Government received ₦653.500 billion, state governments ₦706.469 billion and local government councils ₦513.272 billion. An additional ₦96.083 billion, representing 13 per cent derivation from mineral revenue, was allocated to benefiting states.

A breakdown of the statutory revenue showed that the Federal Government received ₦520.807 billion, states ₦264.160 billion and local councils ₦203.656 billion, alongside the ₦96.083 billion derivation allocation.

From the VAT pool, ₦126.976 billion went to the Federal Government, ₦423.254 billion to states and ₦296.277 billion to local governments. EMTL revenue was shared with ₦5.717 billion allocated to the Federal Government, ₦19.055 billion to states and ₦13.338 billion to local councils.

FAAC noted that Companies Income Tax, import duty and VAT recorded significant increases in December, while oil and gas royalty and some levies rose marginally. However, excise duty, petroleum profit tax, hydrocarbon tax and EMTL declined during the period.
