Kwara Schools Resume As Security Improves

Schools in parts of Kwara State have resumed academic activities following improved security conditions across affected areas.

As part of the reopening process, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, met with principals of public schools statewide to outline safety measures and academic plans to guide the smooth return of students.

Speaking with Emirate FM correspondent, Oluwadolapo Bamigboye, the commissioner said several precautionary steps were put in place before the resumption. He explained that both the federal and state governments worked closely with security agencies to comb the affected communities and certify schools safe for learning.

According to him, clearance and professional advice from security operatives gave the government the confidence to allow students back to their classrooms.

Dr. Olohungbebe explained that students who missed their examinations before the break are expected to commence them shortly. He added that preparations are underway to guide candidates for national examinations, including registration, with further details to be announced soon.

On infrastructure, he disclosed that 39 schools have been approved for renovation, while work on about 70 others will commence in phases as part of efforts to improve learning conditions.

The commissioner therefore said that discussions with principals also covered preparations for the 2026 Senior Secondary School Examination, with school heads informed that the approved registration fee is ₦33,500 per candidate and guided on the necessary procedures for compliance.
