The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of a special forces battalion to Plateau State to tackle the recent resurgence of violent attacks in the area.
The troops, drawn from the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, have already arrived in the state and are mandated to conduct decisive offensive operations against terrorist elements.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Oteh, the deployment was described as a significant boost to ongoing security efforts in the region.
According to the statement, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, represented by the Chief of Staff of the operation, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, received the troops at the division’s headquarters and charged them to act decisively against the attackers.
The deployment follows renewed violence in parts of Plateau State and the wider North-Central region in 2026. On February 7, four persons, including a woman, were reportedly killed by suspected Fulani militia in Ding’ak village, Mushere district of Bokkos Local Government Area, shortly after warnings of possible attacks circulated.
Major General Oyinlola urged residents not to panic over increased military presence or movement of heavy equipment, assuring them that the measures were aimed at restoring peace and security.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security forces by providing timely and credible intelligence on criminal activities, noting that community cooperation remains critical to ending insecurity in the state.
