The Kwara State Government says it is analysing a video released by suspected terrorists allegedly showing victims abducted during the February 3 attack on Woro community.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, the government described the footage as disturbing and expressed concern over its impact on affected families. She said security agencies are carefully reviewing the video to confirm the identities of those shown.
The government noted that conflicting reports have emerged regarding the number of people abducted in the attack. As a result, neither the state nor security authorities have released an official figure. It maintained that the priority remains the safe rescue of all affected residents and the prosecution of those responsible.
According to the statement, community leaders in Woro have been engaged to assist in identifying individuals seen in the footage. A few persons have been preliminarily identified as residents of the community, while some others are still unaccounted for.
The government added that some individuals initially reported missing have since reunited with their families, while others may have temporarily relocated to neighbouring communities, including Wawa and New Bussa in Niger State.
It said the state response committee, led by His Highness Ahmed Ibn Muhammed, is working with security agencies, local authorities, and community stakeholders to coordinate rescue efforts, provide humanitarian support, and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons.
The government assured residents that verified updates would be released as more information becomes available and urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified reports, and continue cooperating with security agencies.
