UNILORIN VC Congratulates Community On Ramadan, Lent

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated members of the University community on the commencement of this year’s Ramadan and Lent observances.

In a statement released by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described the seasons, marked by worship, sacrifice, and piety, as opportunities for Muslims and Christians to renew their faith and strengthen relationships with others.

He noted that the “simultaneous commencement” of Ramadan and Lent is more than a coincidence, highlighting it as a symbolic reflection of the oneness of humanity.

The Vice Chancellor urged members of the University community to observe the periods according to the teachings of their respective holy books, emphasizing that the seasons go beyond fasting or abstinence, and are intended to cultivate discipline, piety, and a sense of sacrifice.

Prof. Egbewole encouraged adherents to use the observances to elevate their faith and foster good neighbourliness, stating that sincere practice would lead to spiritual growth.

He commended the long-standing harmony and fraternity between Muslim and Christian members of the University, describing University of Ilorin as a model of religious tolerance in Nigeria.

As Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities (AAU) and Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), Prof. Egbewole called on the University community to pray for national peace, stability, and the continued progress of the institution.

He reassured students, staff, and stakeholders that the University Administration remains committed to preserving the heritage of religious tolerance and mutual respect.

The Vice Chancellor concluded by wishing all Unilorites a peaceful, memorable, and spiritually rewarding Ramadan and Lent season.
