The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has approved the appointment of Yahaya Yakubu Shafa as Acting Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, effective February 17, 2026.
The decision was announced on Tuesday in Abuja and follows the elevation of the former Chief Registrar, Sulaiman Amida Hassan, to the Bench of the Federal High Court.
The appointment was ratified at the FJSC’s 98th meeting held on January 22, 2026, according to a statement from the Court’s Director of Information, Catherine Oby Christopher.
The statement noted that Shafa’s appointment aligns with the Court’s commitment to continuity, efficiency, and stability in its administrative leadership.
Shafa is a seasoned judicial administrator and legal practitioner with over 18 years of experience in the justice sector.
Before his new role, he served as Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission, where he was instrumental in judicial administration, policy coordination, and institutional development.
The FJSC highlighted that Shafa’s extensive experience in court administration and institutional reform is expected to strengthen the Federal High Court’s administrative machinery and improve the efficient delivery of justice.
The Court extended best wishes to Sulaiman Amida Hassan on his judicial appointment and welcomed Shafa as he assumed the acting Chief Registrar role.
The leadership transition ensures the Federal High Court maintains operational stability while continuing its mandate to administer justice effectively.
Shafa’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his expertise in legal administration to support reforms and enhance the Court’s overall performance.
