The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), U.S.A Branch, has commenced its 2026 Annual Ramadan Package Distribution in Ilorin, Kwara State, providing food support to vulnerable families ahead of the fasting month.
The distribution was launched at the union’s National Secretariat in Geri Alimi, Ilorin, in the presence of community leaders, beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
A total of 750 food packages containing rice and beans are being distributed across the five local government areas of Asa, Moro, Ilorin East, Ilorin West and Ilorin South, with each council allocated 150 bags.
Speaking at the event, the union’s National Vice President, Alhaji Isah Abdulra’uf, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to the welfare of its people. He described Ramadan as a period that calls for compassion and collective responsibility, adding that the outreach is intended to ease the burden on families during the holy month.
National Secretary of the union, Architect Moyo Usman, said the annual programme has become a key component of the group’s humanitarian efforts. Beyond providing food items, he noted, the initiative strengthens unity within the Ilorin Emirate community and encourages continued support for development and welfare projects.
Speakers at the ceremony underscored the Islamic significance of feeding the less privileged during Ramadan, describing acts of charity as central to the spiritual essence of the month.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the IEDPU U.S.A Branch for what they described as a timely intervention amid prevailing economic challenges. They also urged other organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture to promote compassion and social harmony within the emirate.
