The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Taraba State University (TSU) branch has resumed its previously suspended indefinite strike, citing the Taraba State Government’s failure to implement a 2025 agreement.
In a statement released Wednesday in Jalingo, the union’s chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, said the resumption follows the government’s inability to take “concrete and verifiable steps” toward fulfilling its obligations.
The strike had been temporarily suspended in good faith to allow the government time to address the agreed issues. ASUU noted, however, that no meaningful progress had been made during the suspension period.
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Taraba State University branch, hereby informs the general public, students, parents, and all stakeholders that it has resumed its previously suspended total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action,” the statement read.
The union said its congress, held on February 18, 2026, reviewed the situation and concluded that continued neglect of longstanding issues left it with no alternative but to resume industrial action.
ASUU highlighted key grievances, including the absence of a functional pension scheme, unpaid salary arrears, non-payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and the non-implementation of the newly negotiated 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement.
Dr. Mbave stressed that the issues have persisted for an extended period, negatively affecting staff welfare, morale, and the overall functioning of the university system.
He emphasized that the strike resumption was a last resort, following sustained dialogue with the state government that failed to yield the desired outcomes.
The union called on all stakeholders to take note of the industrial action and urged the government to urgently address the issues to restore normal academic activities.
ASUU further warned that the strike would continue until the Taraba State Government meets its obligations under the 2025 agreement.
