34 Killed in Coordinated Attacks on Kebbi Villages

No fewer than 34 people were reportedly killed on Wednesday following coordinated attacks by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on several rural communities in Kebbi State.

The attacks were said to have taken place in villages located within the Arewa Local Government Area, a remote border district of the state.

Local sources disclosed that the assailants stormed the communities in a series of organised raids, opening fire on residents in what survivors described as indiscriminate shootings.

Security sources indicated that 16 people were killed in Mamunu, five in Awashaka, three in Masama, while two persons each were reportedly killed in five other affected villages.

Residents were forced to flee their homes as the attackers moved from house to house, shooting at civilians during the assaults.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the affected communities to provide protection, support survivors, and prevent the attackers from escaping.

Tracking operations are currently ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

Attempts to obtain official comments from security agencies and the state government were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report at 6:47 p.m. Wednesday.
