CJN to Swear In New Supreme Court Justice

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, swear in Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The inauguration is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court complex in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Festus Akande.

Justice Oyewole’s appointment comes amid a recent depletion of the apex court’s bench following the retirement of several justices who reached the mandatory retirement age.

Before his elevation, Oyewole served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was the Presiding Justice of its Enugu Division.

The Supreme Court said his appointment reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary with experienced jurists and reinforce its capacity to deliver timely and impartial judgments.

“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement said.

Akande added that invited guests are expected to adhere strictly to court protocols and security arrangements during the ceremony.
