FG Withdraws Forgery Charge Against Ozekhome

The Federal Government has withdrawn the forgery charge filed against constitutional lawyer, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN).

The charge was instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following a judgment of a London court concerning a property linked to former Federal Capital Territory minister, the late Gen. Jeremiah Useni.

Last month, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation took over the prosecution of the case.

At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), informed Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court that the prosecution was withdrawing the charge for “further instruction.” He said the application was made pursuant to Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Counsel to the defendant, Paul Erokoro (SAN), told the court he had no objection to the withdrawal.

In a brief ruling, Justice Kekemeke granted the application, holding that since it was unopposed, the charge was accordingly withdrawn and dismissed.
