Four women were killed and 26 others injured in a road accident on Monday evening along the Yola–Mubi highway in Adamawa State.
The victims were travelling to the annual convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria in Demsa Local Government Area when the crash occurred, according to the Deputy Chairman of Song Local Government Area, Donan Prambe.
Prambe said the women, members of LCCN Simra in Dunen town, were en route to the event when their vehicle suddenly veered off the road and somersaulted into a nearby bush. He said he was driving behind the vehicle at the time of the incident.
“Three women died on the spot, while others were seen lifeless, with their bodies covered in blood,” he said.
The deceased and the injured were evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola for treatment.
The hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Dauda Wadinga, confirmed that survivors brought to the facility were receiving medical care.
Spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said he would provide further details after consulting the Divisional Police Officer in the area. No official police update had been issued as of the time of filing this report.
