The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has called for urgent action to address the growing wave of insecurity in the state, particularly the rise in kidnappings.
The union expressed concern at its monthly congress held at its secretariat in Alagbaka, Akure, noting that repeated security breaches have created fear among residents and disrupted normal activities.
In a communique signed by Damilola Isaiah, Adebiyi Jimisayo and Joy Pius, the union urged authorities to intensify efforts to curb the situation and bring perpetrators to justice.
It specifically highlighted increasing kidnapping incidents in Akure North Local Government Area and along the Uso–Owo axis, describing the trend as alarming and unacceptable.
The communique stated: “The congress expressed concern over the worrisome security situations in some parts of the state, particularly the increasing cases of commercialised kidnappings.”
The union emphasised that suspects must be apprehended and prosecuted to restore confidence and safety across the state.
