Troops Kill Three Terrorists in Sokoto Forest Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected terrorists during a security operation in Kadam Forest, located in Tangaza Local Government Area.

The operation was conducted by personnel of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7 and the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to a military statement, the operation followed intelligence reports that more than 100 terrorists had gathered deep inside Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and kidnapping operations in nearby communities.

Troops reportedly moved swiftly to intercept the group, making contact with the suspected terrorists around noon. A fierce gun battle followed when the militants attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre.

The military said troops responded with superior firepower, maintaining control of the engagement and forcing the attackers to retreat.

Subsequent clearance operations in the forest confirmed that three terrorists were killed, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Security forces also recovered weapons and other items from the scene, including one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.

The military added that follow-up operations are ongoing to determine if additional casualties were inflicted and to recover more equipment.

It also noted that troop morale remains high, with personnel maintaining strong operational readiness during the counter-terrorism mission.
