Firefighters have prevented a fire outbreak from spreading to nearby buildings in Jalingo, saving properties estimated at about N50 million.
The fire broke out on Saturday morning in the Jeka Da Fari area of the Taraba State capital but was quickly brought under control before it could cause widespread damage.
In a statement, the Taraba State Command of the Federal Fire Service said items valued at about N20 million were destroyed in the blaze, while properties worth roughly N50 million were salvaged.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sylvanus Mikailu, said the incident was reported at about 9:16 a.m. through the National Emergency Line (112), with the alert relayed by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical surge.
The blaze affected a seven-bedroom residential building measuring about 100 by 100 feet and owned by Danladi Gwampo.
“Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, the team carried out a rapid assessment and began an aggressive firefighting operation,” the statement said.
The operation received support from the Taraba State Fire Service, while personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and Nigerian Army provided security at the scene.
