Three security operatives collapsed during the inauguration ceremony of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, held on Tuesday at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The incident occurred during a ceremonial parade at the venue, where personnel from various security agencies were on duty under intense weather conditions.
Those affected included a male police officer, a male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The police officer was the first to collapse, followed later by the NSCDC operative, who reportedly slumped toward the end of the event. She was eventually assisted to an ambulance after initially declining to be moved on a stretcher.
According to a source, the police officer was revived at the scene but remained unstable and was subsequently taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka for further medical attention.
The DSS operative also received immediate assistance from emergency responders present at the venue.
Witnesses attributed the incidents to fatigue and prolonged exposure to the sun during the parade, as temperatures remained high throughout the ceremony.
The inauguration, which marked the beginning of Governor Soludo’s second term, drew a large crowd, including top government officials, dignitaries, and security personnel tasked with maintaining order.
Emergency services were on standby throughout the event and responded promptly to the affected officers.
