The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has criticised the Kano State Government over what he described as preferential treatment in permitting Muhammadu Sanusi II to hold a limited procession amid ongoing tensions within the emirate.
Bayero warned that the decision could be interpreted as official recognition of Sanusi, despite the unresolved legal dispute over the Kano Emirate currently before the courts.
The monarch had earlier informed security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, of plans to organise a traditional durbar celebration after Ramadan.
However, he later accepted the state government’s directive suspending all Eid durbar activities, citing the need to maintain peace and stability in the state.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba Danagundi, said Bayero had instructed his supporters to comply fully with the directive, leading to the cancellation of all preparations for the Sallah procession.
He noted that the decision was taken in the interest of peace, stressing that the emirate would avoid any action capable of triggering unrest.
While commending the government’s broader security measures, Danagundi expressed concern over the approval granted to Sanusi for a limited procession.
He argued that the move could be viewed as tacit endorsement of Sanusi’s position, even as the legal dispute over the Kano Emirate remains unresolved.
