Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), has confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not re-zone the positions of President, Vice President, or other political offices ahead of its national convention.
Uzodimma made the statement on Sunday while addressing journalists after a PGF meeting in Lagos.
He emphasized that the current zoning arrangements within the party will remain unchanged.
“We are not re-zoning. The offices are already zoned. The President is still in office. The Vice President is still in office,” Uzodimma said.
He added that, under the Electoral Act, these positions are legally fixed and will not be altered by the convention.
Uzodimma clarified that the upcoming convention is not intended for presidential or vice-presidential primaries.
“The primaries for elective positions will be conducted by INEC,” he explained.
He noted that the convention will focus solely on electing party officers who will manage APC’s internal affairs.
The Governor’s remarks aim to dispel speculation about possible changes to party leadership ahead of the convention.
APC members and observers will now look toward the convention as a platform for party organization rather than candidate selection.
