The Osun State Security Network Agency confirmed a coordinated attack on its Egbedore Local Government Command headquarters in Awo on Monday evening, resulting in injuries to personnel and the theft of firearms.
Spokesperson Yusuf Idowu Abass said the assault began around 8:00 p.m. when a civilian fled to the Amotekun office seeking refuge after being pursued by suspected hoodlums.
According to preliminary reports, the incident originated from a disagreement linked to a football-related altercation the previous day, which escalated into violent confrontation.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers, armed with machetes and other weapons, chased and assaulted the individual before he reached the Amotekun facility.
Amotekun officers intervened to protect the civilian, but the assailants regrouped and launched a more aggressive attack on the command headquarters.
During the assault, the mob vandalized the facility, injured personnel, breached security, and reportedly attacked the civilian again inside the premises.
The attackers also allegedly removed firearms from the command before security operatives managed to repel them and restore order.
Five suspects were apprehended at the scene and handed over to the police for further investigation, the agency confirmed.
Abass urged residents to remain calm and assist authorities by providing information to help track down other perpetrators.
The agency emphasized its commitment to maintaining security in the area and reassured the public that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
