The Emir of Ilorin Alh. Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR, and chairman of the Kwara State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, has been urged to form a non-partisan committee to address ongoing tensions between two prominent Islamic clerics, Sheikh Habeebullahi Adam Al-Ilory and Sheikh Suleiman Faruq Onikijipa Al-Miskinu-Billahi.
The call was made by the Magaji Nda of Ilorin Alh. Dr Salihu Woru Mohammed, who emphasized the need for urgent intervention to prevent societal disunity arising from the protracted differences between the clerics.
Dr. Woru Mohammed recommended that the proposed committee include respected individuals of unimpeachable character and integrity. He suggested the inclusion of the Emir of Shonga and Chairman, Jama’at Nasril Islam, Dr Haliru Yahaya Ndanusa as committee chairman.
Other suggested members include former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdul-Ganiu Ambali, Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Oladimeji, Sheikh Suleiman Danborno and Aliagan.
The IEDPU National President Alh. Abdul-Mumini Ayo Abdul-Malik is proposed to serve as secretary of the committee.
Dr. Woru Mohammed, who is also a security expert, stressed that the initiative is critical to preventing the negative impact of disunity among Islamic clerics on the wider community and the nation.
He highlighted that unresolved conflicts among influential religious leaders could contribute to societal tension and undermine cohesion within the community.
The suggested committee is intended to provide a neutral platform for dialogue, fostering reconciliation and understanding between the clerics.
By involving eminent personalities with credibility and experience, the committee is expected to mediate the dispute effectively and restore harmony.
Dr. Woru Mohammed called on all stakeholders to support the initiative, noting that timely intervention could avert long-term discord and strengthen religious unity in Kwara State.
