Mohammed Bello El‑Rufai has appealed for prayers following the death of his paternal grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

The family confirmed that the deceased was the mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, who passed away on Friday after a period of illness.

In a post on his X account, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai expressed gratitude for her life and asked the public to remember the family in prayers.

“We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the souls of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers,” he wrote.

Her death comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former governor and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was recently re-arrested after earlier being detained for several days by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
