Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned his membership of the party with immediate effect.
Kwankwaso announced his decision in a press statement dated March 29, 2026, citing the need for a strategic political realignment amid changing dynamics in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve as its National Leader and presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, describing his departure as a difficult decision.
According to him, the evolving direction of national politics made it necessary to align with another political platform that offers better prospects for advancing his vision of national development.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Kwankwaso did not disclose the political platform he intends to join next.
