WAR: US Embassy Urges Americans to Evacuate Iraq Immediately

The United States Embassy in Baghdad has issued an urgent advisory calling on American citizens to leave Iraq immediately.

The warning, released on Thursday, cites credible indications that Iran-aligned Iraqi militias may plan attacks in central Baghdad within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Embassy noted that these militias have a history of targeting US citizens and US-affiliated sites across Iraq, including in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

“Terrorist militias have targeted Americans for kidnapping, and US citizens should leave Iraq immediately,” the advisory stated.

The Embassy also highlighted the Iraqi government’s limited capacity to prevent or respond to such attacks, emphasizing the ongoing security risks within the country.

This alert comes shortly after the kidnapping of American journalist Shelly Kittleson in Baghdad earlier this week, underscoring the immediate threat to foreigners.

Officials warned that Americans should take all necessary precautions and avoid travel to high-risk areas, especially central Baghdad.

The Embassy urged citizens to monitor local news, maintain contact with family, and register with the US State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updates.

Analysts say the advisory reflects heightened tensions in Iraq amid ongoing militia activity and regional geopolitical pressures from Iran-aligned groups.

US citizens in Iraq are strongly advised to depart as soon as possible and avoid all nonessential travel until the security situation stabilizes.
