Arsenal’s Max Dowman Sets Youngest Champions League Record

Arsenal teenager Max Dowman became the youngest player to appear in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages on Tuesday night.

The 16-year-old broke the previous record held by Lamine Yamal, who was 16 years and 223 days old when he played for Barcelona against Napoli in February 2024.

Dowman, aged 16 years and 97 days, was brought on by manager Mikel Arteta as Arsenal sought a result in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Sporting CP.

The young midfielder and winger has already had a record-breaking season, demonstrating maturity well beyond his years.

Last month, Dowman became the youngest-ever Premier League goal scorer after netting a solo effort in Arsenal’s 2–0 win over Everton FC.

His versatility allows him to operate both in midfield and on the flanks, a skill that has impressed fans and pundits alike.

Dowman’s introduction in Lisbon underscores Arsenal’s confidence in youth players during high-stakes European fixtures.

The milestone adds to the growing list of achievements for the 16-year-old, positioning him as one of the most promising talents in English football.

Arsenal now head into the second leg with both a competitive result and a record-setting debut adding to their momentum.

Observers note that Dowman’s rapid rise could see him become a regular feature for both club and country in the near future.
