Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has formally informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of her intention to contest the governorship of Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasanjo disclosed her plans during a private meeting with the president at his residence in Lagos, where she outlined her vision for governance, development priorities and public service delivery in the state if elected.
Sources familiar with the meeting said the discussion focused largely on her governorship ambition and broader political developments ahead of future electoral contests in Ogun State.
Speaking after the meeting, Obasanjo described her interaction with the president as “insightful and forward-looking,” noting that it centred on leadership, governance and ongoing development efforts at both national and state levels.
She also referenced her long-standing political relationship with Tinubu, describing it as one built over years of engagement and mutual respect, which she said has influenced her leadership outlook.
During the meeting, the former senator reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling party and pledged to mobilise support for the president ahead of the next general election.
Political observers view the consultation as part of ongoing alignments within the APC as aspirants begin positioning ahead of future governorship contests in Ogun State.
