Opposition Leaders Protest INEC Decisions in Abuja

Leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress staged a protest in Abuja on Wednesday, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of actions they said undermined democracy and interfered with the party’s internal leadership.

The demonstration, tagged #OccupyINEC, drew several prominent opposition figures to the Maitama Roundabout in the Federal Capital Territory.

Among those present were former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, as well as former ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Rauf Aregbesola.

Also in attendance were former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal and former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye.

Hundreds of supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement participated in the protest alongside ADC members and other political supporters.

The protesters said their action was aimed at drawing attention to what they described as decisions by INEC affecting the party’s leadership structure and broader democratic processes.

Party leaders maintained that the demonstration was peaceful and intended to press for transparency and respect for internal party autonomy within Nigeria’s electoral system
