The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akintayo made his declaration on Thursday after appearing before the PDP Governorship Screening Committee in Oyo State. He later formally presented his ambition to party members and supporters in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
In a statement, he said he was entering the race with “deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility,” adding that his decision was driven by a desire to build on ongoing development in the state.
He pointed to his record as council chairman, saying his administration had prioritised grassroots development, transparency and delivery of community-focused projects.
Akintayo also said his experience in public service had prepared him for higher responsibility, noting that his leadership style is rooted in accountability and inclusiveness.
He expressed confidence in his chances of securing the party’s ticket, saying his grassroots connections and performance in office would count in his favour.
The PDP chieftain pledged to consolidate on the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly in infrastructure and governance reforms.
“I am determined to consolidate on these gains and ensure sustained, purposeful leadership that will move Oyo State to even greater heights,” he said.
