Yusuf Denies Knowledge of Deputy’s Resignation Plot

Abba Kabir Yusuf has said he is yet to receive any formal resignation letter from his former deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, amid reports of the latter’s exit from office and rising political tension in Kano State.

Speaking at the Government House while receiving a political support group, the governor stated that he was unaware of any official resignation and alleged that there had been a failed attempt to remove him from office.

Yusuf, who was elected alongside Gwarzo in 2023, maintained that his mandate remains valid and cannot be cut short before the end of his tenure.

“Today, the deputy governor who came with us on the same ticket is no longer with us. Nobody offended him. In fact, I have not even seen his resignation letter. Whatever made him act that way was an attempt to remove me and take over the position, but God did not allow it,” he said.

The governor described the development as an opportunity to appoint a credible replacement, noting that several qualified individuals had already shown interest in the vacant position.

He also responded to criticism from the Kwankwasiyya movement following his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, arguing that recent defections by some members to the African Democratic Congress highlighted inconsistencies within the group.

Yusuf further criticised what he described as a lack of internal democracy within the party, alleging that key decisions were taken without adequate consultation.

“We saw the direction the party was heading and offered advice, but it was ignored. God showed us the way, and we left because we did not want to put millions of Kano residents in uncertainty,” he said.

Despite the political tensions, the governor reiterated that his administration remains focused on governance and delivering development projects to residents of the state.
