The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the opposition party’s parallel state congress that produced two separate leadership factions.
One faction elected Silas Onu as chairman, while another produced Jennifer Adibe Nwafor as state chairman during separate congresses held in Abakaliki.
Speaking at his faction’s congress held at Preston Hotel, Onu said the ADC would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections and expressed confidence the party could defeat the ruling APC in the state.
Reacting to the development, the APC state chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, urged the opposition party to resolve its internal leadership dispute before discussing the 2027 elections.
Okoro-Emegha, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chijioke Agwu, said the existence of parallel leadership within the ADC raised questions about the party’s preparedness for future elections.
He stated that the APC remained united under its current leadership and advised the ADC factions to focus on addressing their internal challenges at both state and national levels.
The APC chairman also expressed confidence in the popularity of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, saying residents of the state would again support the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
