Leaders and stakeholders from Kwara North Senatorial District on Tuesday declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, citing what they described as his strong performance since assuming office.
The endorsement was announced at a well-attended rally held at the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin, where prominent political figures from the district gathered to express their position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of district leaders, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and two-time minister, Issa Bio Ibrahim, said the people of Kwara North had resolved to support any candidate from the district who emerges as the governorship flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
He said the move was aimed at ensuring the district produces the state governor for the first time since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, adding that all APC governorship aspirants from Kwara North had agreed to work together toward that goal.
Among those present at the rally were the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu; Senator Sadiq Umar; Mohammed Bio; and Tajudeen Audu, all considered potential governorship aspirants from the district.
Ibrahim also appealed to political stakeholders in Kwara Central and Kwara South to support Kwara North’s bid to produce the next governor, describing the request as a call for fairness and inclusion.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers in the district, the Emir of Lafiagi, Muhammad Kudu Kawu, said the agitation for a power shift reflects a longstanding aspiration of the people of Kwara North.
He noted that despite the district’s contributions to electoral victories and political stability in the state over the years, it has remained excluded from occupying the governorship position.
Kawu urged stakeholders in the other senatorial districts to support the move in the interest of unity and to sustain Kwara’s reputation as the “State of Harmony.”
Also speaking, former lawmaker and ex-Commissioner for Information, AbdulMumin Katibi, presented electoral data showing that Kwara North has consistently produced the second-largest voting bloc in the state after Kwara Central, and called on other districts to reciprocate its support in past elections by backing its governorship ambition in 2027.
