The University of Ilorin has recorded a landmark performance at the Nigerian Law School Bar Final Examinations, with 16 of its law graduates earning First Class Honours.
The achievement, described as the highest in the institution’s history, also saw 58 other graduates from the Faculty of Law secure Second Class Upper division in the same examinations.
Details of the results were contained in a memo dated April 21, 2026, from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Bashir Omipidan, to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN).
The First Class graduates include Barakat Ogungbe, Adeniyi Israel, Mubarak Owoade, Kamaldeen Akanji, Farida Adeowu, Tomiwa Ademiju, Glory Oladipo, Joel Victor, Nneoma Mbalewe, Abdullahi AbdulAzeez, Boluwatife Oni-Kayode, Adeola Abass, Mariam Oyewumi, Nana Aisha AbdulMaleeq, Rahmat Aduke Oba, and Dorcas Oyedele.
Prof. Omipidan noted that the result marks the first time such a large number of the university’s graduates would attain First Class honours in the Bar Finals, attributing the success partly to improved academic support and administrative leadership within the faculty.
Reacting to the development, Vice Chancellor Prof. Egbewole described the performance as a significant milestone for the university, stating that it reflects both the students’ dedication and the institution’s strong academic foundation.
In a statement issued by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said he had anticipated such achievements, describing the Faculty of Law as one of the leading law faculties in Nigeria in terms of staffing, facilities, and service delivery.
Egbewole, who is also a member of the Body of Benchers, commended the graduates for their hard work, discipline, and resilience, noting that the success reinforces the university’s commitment to excellence in legal education.
He also congratulated other graduates who passed the Bar examinations and urged all alumni to uphold the institution’s values and represent it positively in their professional careers.
