Dele Momodu Defends Atiku, Urges Political Civility

Media entrepreneur Dele Momodu has criticised what he described as the growing “bullying” of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, while also reflecting on his past political partnership with Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.

In a post on X on Monday, Momodu expressed concern that Atiku, who picked Obi as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election, was now being subjected to attacks from some political supporters.

He described the situation as “extremely sad,” suggesting that some of the criticism was being driven by what he called “fake Obidients and agent provocateurs.”

In a follow-up discussion on an X Space, Momodu revisited the 2023 presidential election, arguing that Obi performed strongly in his traditional strongholds but questioning claims that he was denied victory.

He also commented on regional voting patterns, saying political success in Nigeria requires broad national appeal across all regions.

Momodu defended Atiku’s political record, noting that he finished second in the last presidential election and remained a significant figure in national politics due to his experience and consistency.

He added that the next election cycle could be decisive for Atiku, suggesting it may be his final attempt at securing the presidency.

The publisher also cautioned against political hostility and online abuse, urging supporters across party lines to maintain civility in public discourse.

He further stressed the importance of respecting all political leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, saying political disagreements should not translate into personal attacks.

Momodu concluded by reaffirming his support for Atiku, describing himself as “a last man standing” while insisting that he would back whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
