The Nigerian Senate has ordered an investigation into renewed attacks by suspected bandits in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, following reports of violence that displaced several residents.
The upper chamber also directed the immediate provision of relief materials to affected communities, including Kwa, Gyakan, Rigange, Waduku and Tchobo, where gunmen reportedly carried out assaults while riding motorcycles.
The resolution was adopted after a motion sponsored by Binos Dauda Yaroe, who raised alarm over the continued attacks on residents despite existing security measures.
Yaroe noted that the violence occurred even with a dusk-to-dawn curfew and the presence of security personnel deployed to maintain order in the area.
Supporting the motion, Amos Yohanna described the situation as tragic, lamenting that the crisis had persisted over the years despite repeated interventions.
He called on the National Assembly to collaborate with the Adamawa State Government to sustain peace efforts and urged security agencies to intensify their operations in the region.
In its resolution, the Senate mandated its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to investigate the situation and propose lasting solutions to the recurring attacks.
The chamber also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide emergency relief materials to displaced persons affected by the violence.
