President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reaffirmed his intention to seek a second term in office, dismissing what he described as coordinated efforts by political opponents to force him out of power.
In a strongly worded statement, the president portrayed himself as resolute despite mounting criticism and alleged political manoeuvring against his administration.
“They tried to get rid of me, but I refused to go. I am a very stubborn politician,” Tinubu said. “I will campaign for my second term, and I will win.”
He also accused unnamed rivals, including some former allies, of exploiting Nigeria’s security challenges to weaken his government and advance their own political ambitions.
“You were played into the hands of brigades, including my old enemies, who want to use insecurity to push me out,” he added.
The remarks come amid increasing political activity across the country, as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
Analysts say the president’s comments reflect a deepening political divide and signal what could become a highly competitive and contentious race for power in the coming electoral cycle.
