Gbenga Makanjuola Picks APC Nomination Form for Kwara South Senatorial Seat

Former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbenga Makanjuola, has obtained the party’s nomination form to contest for the Kwara South Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makanjuola made his intention known on Friday during a visit to the APC state secretariat in Ilorin, where he met with members of the State Working Committee led by party chairman Sunday Fagbemi and formally submitted his letter of intent.

He said his decision to re-enter the race was driven by a continued commitment to public service, adding that leadership is ultimately determined by God.

“I am here by the grace of God to indicate my interest to represent Kwara South in the next dispensation. Whatever we say or do, it is only God that determines who leads,” he said.

The former lawmaker recalled his previous political experiences, stating that his past electoral victories were achieved through grassroots support rather than financial inducement.

He noted that during his earlier campaigns, no delegate was allegedly paid at both party primaries and general elections, describing it as a reflection of public trust and divine favour.

Makanjuola also highlighted his extensive experience within the National Assembly system, including his time as a legislator and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, as well as other engagements in legislative leadership structures.

He stressed that effective representation is rooted in accessibility, accountability, and commitment to constituents’ interests, which he pledged to uphold if elected.

The aspirant further recalled touring all 42 wards in his constituency at the end of his previous tenure to appreciate supporters, describing it as part of his grassroots engagement and accountability to the people.

Makanjuola assured party leaders and supporters that he would justify their confidence if given the mandate to represent Kwara South in the Senate.

Responding, APC State Chairman Sunday Fagbemi described him as “modest and honest,” expressing confidence in his character while noting that party decisions ultimately rest on the collective will and divine direction.
