The Lagos State Government has warned food vendors operating in public schools across the state to comply strictly with approved health and safety regulations, stating that principals will be held accountable for any violations within their schools.
The warning was issued by Idowu Olufunke Oyetola during her first strategic meeting with school principals at the Education District III headquarters in Falomo.
Dr. Oyetola, who recently assumed office as Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary for Education District III, said all food vendors operating within school premises must comply with established regulations.
“All food vendors operating within school premises must strictly comply with laid-down regulations, while principals will be held accountable for any violations recorded in their schools,” she said.
She also urged principals to uphold discipline, integrity and high academic standards, particularly ahead of the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
According to Oyetola, Education District III currently ranks second in the state’s WAEC performance index, and schools must sustain and improve their results while maintaining zero tolerance for examination malpractice.
She further directed schools to ensure that all eligible students are properly registered for the Basic Education Certificate Examination and adequately prepared for the exercise.
On administration and planning, the education official stressed the importance of accurate data management, instructing schools to promptly update staff and student records in the state database.
Oyetola also advised officers approaching retirement to notify the district at least six months before their retirement dates to avoid delays in processing documentation.
In addition, she encouraged schools to participate actively in the state’s approved co-curricular competitions and urged staff and students to remain enrolled in the Lagos State Health Scheme as part of the government’s healthcare initiative.
