JAMB to Decide 2026 Admission Cut-Off Marks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that its 2026 Policy Meeting will hold on Monday to determine guidelines for admissions into tertiary institutions across the country, including minimum cut-off marks for candidates.

In a statement issued on Sunday, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, said the meeting would be chaired by the Minister of Education and attended by major stakeholders in the education sector.

According to the Board, discussions will focus on the 2026 admission process for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide.

The meeting is also expected to review and approve minimum admissible scores for tertiary institutions, which traditionally serve as benchmarks for admission across the country.

JAMB further disclosed that a delegation from Sierra Leone would attend the meeting to study Nigeria’s centralised admission system.

The delegation includes Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, alongside the vice-chancellors of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology and Njala University.

According to JAMB, the Sierra Leonean officials are exploring the possibility of establishing a similar central admission body in their country to address growing challenges in tertiary admissions.

The Board said the delegation had already been taken through its examination and admission procedures at JAMB headquarters in Bwari.

During the policy meeting, the visitors are expected to observe how different stakeholders participate in Nigeria’s admission process, which JAMB described as a coordinated system involving multiple institutions and agencies.

The Board also reaffirmed the importance of its role in Nigeria’s education sector, stressing that the centralised admission structure remains critical to tertiary placement nationwide.
