
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has announced activities for its 2026 Press Week celebration, with the grand finale scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Ilorin.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the 2026 Press Week Committee, Mallam Garba Abdulhakeem, the event will hold at Shalom Hall, City of Refuge, Station Road, GRA, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The annual celebration is aimed at honouring journalists, promoting professional development, and strengthening collaboration between the media and key stakeholders in governance and society.
Development expert David Sunday Babalola will serve as Chairman of the Occasion, while AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is expected as Special Guest of Honour.
A major highlight of the event will be keynote presentations by members of the Kwara State Executive Council.
The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, is expected to deliver the keynote address focusing on development, innovation, opportunities in the livestock sector, and the role of strategic communication in national growth.
Also billed to speak is the Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, who will address issues relating to government-media relations, information management, and the role of journalism in promoting democratic governance and accountability.
The Oloro of Oro Kingdom, Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye, will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.
As part of activities lined up for the Press Week, a fitness exercise and table tennis competition will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at George Innih Stadium from 7:00 a.m.
The Correspondents’ Chapel said the event is expected to bring together journalists, government officials, traditional rulers, business leaders, civil society groups, and members of the public to celebrate excellence in journalism and promote ethical media practice.
