Yobe CP Warns Officers Against Corruption

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has warned police personnel against extortion, corruption and other unethical conduct while carrying out their duties.

The warning was issued during an emergency meeting with the Command’s management team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and other senior officers at the State Police Headquarters in Damaturu.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, the commissioner said supervisory officers would be held responsible for acts of misconduct committed by personnel under their command.

Jibrin directed DPOs to ensure proper supervision of officers, promote professionalism and strengthen mentoring on weapon handling, respect for human rights and community policing principles.

He also warned officers against interfering in civil matters outside the constitutional responsibilities of the police, stressing the need for professionalism at all times.

The commissioner further instructed divisional heads to intensify raids on criminal hideouts, sustain regular patrols and improve visibility policing across their areas without harassing law-abiding residents.

According to the statement, the CP assured officers of the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to personnel welfare, improved working conditions, capacity building and professional policing standards.

He urged officers to remain disciplined and dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities while calling on residents to continue supporting the police in maintaining peace and security across the state.
