Kalu Promises More Projects After Abia North Primary Win

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has pledged to intensify development efforts in the district following his victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kalu secured a landslide win in the direct primary, polling 65,651 votes to defeat his closest rival, Professor Philip Nto, who received 2,103 votes. According to the APC Primary Election Committee, 69,441 of the 72,028 registered voters were accredited, while 67,854 votes were cast across the 57 wards in Abia North.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kalu described the outcome as “a humbling reaffirmation” of the confidence reposed in him by party members and constituents. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders at national and state levels, his support groups, and voters across the district.

He also thanked residents of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi local government areas for their continued support, noting that their trust has remained a key source of motivation.

Kalu, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, said his legislative and constituency work since 2019 has focused on strengthening representation for Abia North and delivering tangible projects.

He disclosed that he has sponsored more than 20 bills in the Senate covering areas such as security, education, infrastructure, governance, industrial development, and economic reform, including amendments to key national laws like the Cabotage Act, Armed Forces Act, and Electoral Act.

On constituency projects, the former Senate Chief Whip said he has facilitated over 70 road projects across the five local government areas in the senatorial district, alongside interventions in healthcare, education, and social welfare.

He further stated that more than 100 schools have been renovated or constructed under his initiatives, while free medical services have been provided for vulnerable groups, including mothers and the elderly, through the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Kalu also highlighted ongoing and completed industrial projects, including a cashew processing plant in Igbere and proposed solar panel and tricycle manufacturing facilities, as well as empowerment programmes targeting women and youths.

Reaffirming his commitment ahead of the 2027 elections, Kalu said his focus remains on delivering more development projects, stressing that leadership must be centred on improving livelihoods. “Together, we will continue to build a more prosperous, united, and progressive Abia North,” he said.
