The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has stepped up counterterrorism operations in the North-East, carrying out coordinated airstrikes on suspected insurgent strongholds in Adamawa and Borno states.
According to the Air Force, the operations were conducted on May 19 under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeting Bukar Meram in the Southern Tumbuns area and Chikide in the Mandara Mountains.
NAF said the strikes followed credible intelligence and surveillance missions which identified terrorist logistics hubs, meeting points, and concealed operational structures within the affected locations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force said several terrorists were killed during the operations, while planned attacks were disrupted.
The statement added that logistics facilities and other operational assets used by insurgents were also destroyed in the air raids.
Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained joint operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the North-East.
He said intelligence-led air operations would continue to target terrorist camps, supply networks, and operational bases across conflict-affected areas.
The Air Chief added that the Nigerian Air Force would maintain pressure on terrorist groups until lasting security is achieved in the region.
