Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the parties of lacking transparency and misleading Nigerians.
Wike made the remarks during his monthly media chat, where he questioned the ability of opposition parties to present themselves as alternatives to the ruling parties.
He alleged that the ADC failed to conduct a credible and transparent primary election acceptable to all its presidential aspirants.
According to the minister, internal disputes that emerged during the party’s congress exposed weaknesses within the opposition coalition.
“NDC as small as they are can’t do a primary without protest. Look at ADC, which says its coalition is willing to take over the structure of democracy,” Wike said.
He added that two of the party’s presidential aspirants reportedly rejected the outcome of the process, describing it as evidence of poor internal democracy.
Wike argued that parties which frequently criticise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) should first demonstrate transparency within their own structures.
“Who is coming to Nigerians to tell them lies that we are the Messiah? Those are all liars,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor maintained that the opposition parties’ internal challenges undermine their claims of offering better democratic practices than the major political parties.
