2027: Datti Says He Advised Obi to Work With Kwankwaso

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has revealed that he advised Peter Obi to align politically with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso long before reports of a possible alliance between the two politicians emerged.

Baba-Ahmed made the disclosure during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he spoke about opposition politics and coalition-building ahead of future elections.

According to him, the conversation took place in January 2024, shortly after the 2023 presidential election, when he sought to understand Obi’s political plans going forward.

“I tracked him and asked him, ‘What is your plan going forward?’ When I didn’t get a clear plan, I said, ‘If you don’t have a plan, sir, work with Kwankwaso,’” Baba-Ahmed said.

He explained that his recommendation was based on the need for stronger political alliances and long-term planning to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in future elections.

Baba-Ahmed argued that President Bola Tinubu’s political success was built on years of strategic organisation and coalition-building.

“Tinubu organised for 16 years. You cannot be planning from day to day or week to week,” he said.

The former vice-presidential candidate also stated that despite internal disagreements within the Labour Party, he has remained supportive of Obi and committed to assisting him politically.

Recent political discussions have focused on possible opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Obi and Kwankwaso frequently mentioned as potential partners in a coalition movement.
