Seyi Makinde has ordered a restriction on motorcycle operations across Oyo State between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of efforts to address growing security concerns in the state.
The governor announced the directive in an Executive Order issued on Friday, amid ongoing efforts to secure the release of abducted teachers and schoolchildren kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area.
Makinde said the state government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the victims, noting that their continued captivity has caused pain for their families and residents of the state.
“Every day they remain in captivity is a painful day for their families and the entire state,” the governor said.
He assured residents that security operations and rescue efforts were continuing around the clock, even though details of the operations could not be made public for strategic reasons.
“We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction,” Makinde stated.
“A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” he added.
The governor also stressed that the abducted victims had not been forgotten or abandoned by the government.
The restriction on motorcycle operations is part of broader measures introduced by the state government to curb insecurity and improve public safety, particularly during late-night hours.
