Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has drawn mixed reactions on social media after leading supporters of President Bola Tinubu at a solidarity rally in Abuja organised by the Re-elect Tinubu For Inclusive Nigeria (RTIFN) movement.
Held under the theme, “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria,” the rally featured mainly Nollywood personalities who commended the administration’s efforts in infrastructure development and security while calling for stronger action against kidnapping and other crimes. The event followed a medical outreach programme that provided free healthcare services and medications to hundreds of residents.
Orji, who serves as Deputy Director-General of the movement, urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s reform agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, public attention quickly shifted to videos and photographs from the rally showing the actor appearing physically frail during the march. The footage triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many users questioning the endorsement of the administration amid rising living costs, inflation and persistent security challenges.
Some critics accused celebrities of ignoring the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, while others suggested the rally was politically motivated. Supporters, however, defended the right of public figures to openly support political causes and candidates of their choice, arguing that differing political views should not attract personal attacks.
The debate reflects the broader national conversation surrounding Tinubu’s administration. While supporters point to ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure projects and security interventions as signs of progress, critics maintain that many citizens have yet to experience tangible improvements in their daily lives.
The controversy has once again highlighted the influential role of celebrities in Nigeria’s political landscape, where public endorsements often generate significant public debate.
